More benchmarks

Hi, is it possible to add more benchmarks to the app? I understand that I can use an asset as a benchmark, such as an ETF tracking an index, but ETFs incur fees and have a tracking difference. I find the lack of benchmarks for global equities and emerging markets limiting.

Additionally, the help page (Taxonomies | Capitally) is somewhat misleading in its Examples section, where it states: “Developed World: ETFs or Funds tracking MSCI World allocation, excluding emerging markets.” In reality, the MSCI World Index only includes equities from developed markets (reference: https://www.msci.com/documents/10199/178e6643-6ae6-47b9-82be-e1fc565ededb). To include emerging markets, one would need to track the MSCI ACWI Index (reference: https://www.msci.com/documents/10199/8d97d244-4685-4200-a24c-3e2942e3adeb) or consider alternatives like the FTSE All-World Index.

You can type the symbol or name of the index or even just “index” into the benchmark selector. The indexes use a “line chart” icon

However, some time ago all MSCI indexes where removed by my data provider due to licensing issues and they still didn’t return. As the number of users grows, I’ll be able to connect to a second data data source to increase the coverage / quality.

Thanks. I tried various indexes by the name or code but couldn’t find them. Now I understand why. I see that FTSE Russell indexes are also not present. Is there any index currently available that would track global equities? I cannot find it on the list when searching by the “index” phrase.

Obviously not a perfect solution, but you can also create a custom index asset, import a price history for it and use it as a benchmark - especially to compare historical performance.

There are 1.5k indexes available, you can check them here:

capitally indexes.csv (78.4 KB)

The CSV was helpful, thanks! Dow Jones Global should do the trick.
