I want to filter for example “buy” transactions for September 2024. I go to portfolio → transactions → filter period above the chart → thick "period only " in table header, but I see all buy transactions from august, July etc.
Am I doing something wrong ? or is there an issue ?
Hmmm, what you described is how it should work and it does so for me right now…
Just make sure that the time period is indeed just September (you can type 2024-09 or choose start and end dates) and the Only period is enabled (blue).
Any chance you could send a screenshot with your values redacted? Maybe I’ll be able to see the problem then.
The one on the top filter the positions (position units to be precise) - so it will include positions that were opened in September. If you also select max, the table will show you transaction only for these positions - so both Buy & Sell. Buys will only be from September, Sells can be from any month.
Now the one on the bottom controls the time period for the results - you select for what period you want the returns and other metrics to be calculated.
So if you want to see only the positions you have closed in September, use the Position Closed within period 2024-09 on top and max in bottom. The charts and metrics will show you how these positions performed and how long you held them.
If you just want to see the transactions from September, don’t filter on top, just select the 2024-09 on the lower one.
Yes, filtering the table by searching, period only or choosing transaction types will currently not affect the aggregation at the bottom. This is on the roadmap.
What number you’re looking for? Number of transactions, the sold amount, something else?
I find it difficult to use with having these 2 different filtering.
Now I remember what the issue was in the first place → I was filtering only the bottom (above chart) for September, the transactions indeed are filtered for September, but the positions are not. It shows me positions with no transaction in September also, ant for the positions that had transactions in September the amounts are in full (not with for ex: 47% badge and the corresponding amount).
I was also trying to find the total amount invested in September, but because the totals ( total quantity, total value, total invested principal. etc) where not filtered in positions, and in transactions there are no totals , I wasn’t able to do this only with bottom filter(above chart).
So I think it is an issue that can be improved, the confusion between the 2 concomitent filtering methods, and the partial filtering (only transaction , not positions, and maybe other tabs - I didn’t check), and also the totals.
The period selector is not a filter. It selects the period to calculate metrics for. It’s a very typical selector that works in many other apps - mostly on charts - just in Capitally there’s one that affects the whole screen to limit the confusion.
Similarly, in other apps filters act on positions, but Capitally lets you filter by open/close date, not only asset or category.
I agree the footer is confusing, but funnily enough it was introduced as a quick user-request solution with a known drawback to address later
