How do I reconfigure the purchase data for stocks in my portfolio so that it correctly shows profit/loss after a stock split?
This is specifically in reference to the 3-for-1 stock split of Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF (NYSE: SCHD): ‘Dear clients, Please be advised that a 3-for-1 stock split of SCHD (Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF (NYSE)) is scheduled to take place at the end of the trading session on Thursday, October 10, 2024.’
Capitally handles Splits automatically and I can see that SCHD has the split you mention. You should see a Split transaction in your history.
If any buys or sells later on are incorrect, you need to make sure that transactions both before and after have correct quantities - as they were transacted.
Some platforms may display adjusted quantity on past transactions, but the transaction history should have the actual numbers.
Could you please explain / confirm the step-by-step operation to me.
Example (sample data)
1 I buy 120 shares of SCHD 20.01.2024 at $ 75
2. on 10.10.2025 there is a 3:1 split
3. should I now see 360 shares in the panel at an average purchase price of $25?
Currently in the portfolio I see the original number and purchase price of shares and in the Returns column ~65% resulting from the split.
It somehow wasn’t fetched for you with pricing data - open Settings → Analysis and reset prices cache
You deleted it by accident. You can open History from the top-right menu and search for “v-StockSpl-fdc443”. If it was deleted, delete this change from the triple dot menu to the right.
