Hi, I come from Stockmarketeye and I am testing with Capitally for a professional portfolio management.my base currency is
the Euro.
In Capitally I find that there is no possibility when entering a trade to enter the cashflow directly.capitally you have to enter price, commissions and it does the cashflow calculation but this never matches with the broker(due to the exchange rate).
In stokmarketeye I had the very useful possibility to simply put calculation in base currency and enter final amount invested in €, number of shares and purchase price in original currency (for example $) and then it did the calculation of expenses automatically.the good thing about this way of entering trades is that it always matches the amount purchased from the broker with the management software in base currency.
You should enter the price, fees and tax withheld in the currency of your broker statement. So if you bought 1 share for $10 and you paid €9 for it, then you set 9 EUR as your price per share. Then it should all match up correctly.
If you only know the fx rate and price in original currency, you can do the math right within the price input field (eg. by writing 10 * 0.9).
If your broker has multiple foreign currency accounts and does automatic conversion before making the transaction, then you would enter the $10 as a price - as thats what you actually paid (eur->usd conversion is a separate transaction).
Ok, thanks for the quick reply.
In my case I do not use your solutions, my broker gives me the purchase price in $, the commissions and the final amount in €. The exchange price only gives me 3 decimals and when I do the calculation never matches, so I need a management software that can enter the final amount in € manually
Thanks for your attention.
Some broker imports that we have do that already. They do the math the other way round - priceEUR = (valueEUR - commissionEUR) / shares.
If you have some standard files from your broker, you can send them to support@mycapitally.com and I’ll add support for your broker into the app - then you won’t need to calculate anything by hand.
