I bought a bear call spread on the s&p500 index. The ticker for the option is spxw, but I can’t seem to find it. I imported the data from IBKR, bur capitally did not recognise the trade. How can I solve this?
Jan and I sorted this out by email, so here’s the summary for anyone else trading index options.
IBKR exports SPXW (and other index options) without an underlying ISIN, so the import can’t attach the legs automatically. In the import review, pick the S&P 500 Index as the underlying for both legs - search for ISIN US78378X1072, not for SPXW. Strikes and multipliers then stay exactly as in the IBKR file. Using SPY as the underlying also works, but you have to multiple the price by 10 and it only approximates the index.
Capitally does have S&P 500 index prices - that’s what the benchmark uses, and what the option value is calculated from. What it doesn’t source is market quotes for the options themselves: option values are modelled (Black-Scholes-Merton or Barone-Adesi-Whaley) from the underlying’s price, historical volatility, dividend yield and the risk-free rate, so they won’t always match your broker’s quote. A live option price feed isn’t planned for now, as those feeds are very expensive, but I plan to let you connect an external data source you buy separately.
