Moving a real estate investment under an Account (or Folder) should be more intuitive

Adding my rental flat as a real estate investment was a pain. I followed the instructions, and it worked. However, when I created an account named Ingatlanok (Real Estate) and tried to move the existing flat under it, it didn’t work. There was no error message or warning; it just did not happen. After several attempts, I realized that I have to create a Transaction. I think I also had to create an account folder named Ingatlanok. When I moved this transaction under the Ingatlanok, the flat was also transferred. (Or something like this - I am not exactly sure what happened.)

Yes, in Capitally, accounts and assets are separate. This is because, in many cases you can have the same asset on multiple accounts.

What binds them together are transactions. So once you create the first transaction you create a position, which is the amount of a certain asset on a certain account. If you change that transaction’s account, you basically move this position to another account.

You don’t need to create account folders or even accounts, but they help with organizing things.
