Taxation in France

Hello,

I recently activated your free trial and imported my Swissquote portfolio. However, I am experiencing difficulties with tax tracking, and more generally, I am unable to clearly view capital gains and losses.

Could you please clarify:

  • What steps I should follow to enable proper tax tracking?

  • Whether this functionality is fully supported, particularly for French tax rules (PFU – Prélèvement Forfaitaire Unique)?

  • If not, is this feature planned in the near future?

For me, it is essential to have:

  • Accurate portfolio tracking

  • A clear year-end tax report

  • A strict application of the French cost basis method (PMA / CUMP – weighted average cost) for all capital gains calculations

This point is particularly important, as French tax regulations require the use of this method rather than FIFO.

If your platform supports all of the above, I would be happy to subscribe. However, I need a reliable solution that allows me to manage my portfolio and prepare my tax declaration with confidence.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards,

Hey Stefano,

You can find the full guide on taxes here: How to Set Up Taxes in Capitally - Complete Guide | Capitally

We do have a preset for French taxes, but from what I see it currently uses FIFO. Tax presets for most countries are AI-generated, and although good enough for a high-level overview, they may still be not accurate enough. We’re working with the community to improve them, so if you find any discrepancies, just let us know - preferably via support email.

I’ve already launched a second pass on the French preset and will release an improved version soon.

Hello, thank you for your help — it’s impossible to change the date in the default settings: only 2022 is displayed and you can’t scroll… have a good day
