GBX vs GBP again

Hi Rafal,

I became a millionaire today because the value of all my assets quoted in GBX was multiplied by 100! Contrary to previous times, it doesn’t affect a single asset but all those in GBX, which may indicate a bug rather than a problem with the data?

Sadly the millions aren’t real, but you’re right that this isn’t the usual single-asset data glitch.

Our market data provider changed the quote unit for many UK funds this morning: it now sends their prices in pence while still labelling them as pounds. We’re working with them to fix that.

We do have an automatic guard for exactly this, and it did spot it this morning. But it can only confirm the correct unit for exchange-listed shares, and these are unlisted funds, so it raised the alarm and then had nothing to check against. We’re fixing both things: the prices now, and the guard so it can act better on its own alert.

Nothing you entered has changed — this is only the price feed, and your values will come back to earth once the correction is pushed.

Thanks Rafal, today my assets dropped back to earth but there is still a problem with historical data: the price of GB00BQ5HYR26 appears to drop by a factor 100 between 20/08 and 21/08, meaning that all values before 21/08/2026 are still inflated by a factor 100 and the return appears to be -100%.

It took longer than I’d like, but our data provider has finally fixed historical data on all affected GBP/GBX symbols that we know of.

Our existing safeguards were not able to prevent this, so we’ll be implementing additional ones as we’re now replacing our entire data ingestion pipelines.

No problem, but I found a few more:

  • GB00BN13X436
  • GB00BMWSRZ99
  • GB00BSWT8Q21

All of them drop by a factor 100 on 20/08.

You’re right to flag those three. I’ll get their historical prices corrected.
