Swissquote.lu capital gains calculation

Hello,

I would like to understand how to proceed so that capital gains and losses are calculated automatically.

As an example, today I import my CSV file into an AI like ChatGPT or Gemini, and the calculations for capital gains and losses are performed quite accurately. The same CSV file is also recognized without any difficulty by Sharesight.

I would like to use Capitally as my main tool, but I must admit I find it quite complex to get started with. At this stage, after importing my file, I only obtain taxable dividends, without any automatic calculation of capital gains and losses, even though this information is essential for my tax return.

If you can help me find the feature that meets this need, I would be delighted to subscribe.

Currently, I use Koinly for cryptocurrencies and Sharesight for stocks to prepare my French tax return. Since my 2025 tax return is already completed, I am now looking for a simple and comprehensive tool to prepare for the next filing.

I would really like to be able to use Capitally as a single solution. If a feature, setting, or subscription tier allows for the automatic calculation of capital gains and losses, I would be very grateful if you could show me the steps to follow or point me to the relevant documentation.

Thank you sincerely for your help and I wish you an excellent day.

Best regards,

Hello,

Automatic calculation of capital gains and losses does indeed exist: it is done through tax reports. In Reports → Taxes Due, select the France tax preset - it comes preconfigured with the appropriate capital gains rates, holding periods, and cost basis methods. You can choose the cost basis method (FIFO, LIFO, average cost, manual lot selection) at the portfolio, account, or position level: Cost Basis Methods Explained - FIFO, LIFO, HICO, LOCO, ACB | Capitally | Capitally

In addition, the Taxable Income report lists closed positions over the period with their expenses, revenues, and income, giving you direct access to your capital gains base, as well as dividends and other fixed income received. You can group it by transaction lot or by domicile, and export it as CSV, Excel, or PDF: How to Generate Taxable Income Reports in Capitally | Capitally

If you currently only see dividends, it is probably because not all purchases and sales were imported—without the corresponding purchases, no cost basis can be calculated. Could you send me your Swissquote.lu CSV file (an anonymized version is fine) along with how you obtain it from their interface? With that, I can look into how it is interpreted and make sure it is recognized correctly, including dividends, purchases, and sales.

Best regards,
